Meet PSC’s Clergy and Staff: Guiding Our Community

Rabbi Doron Shapira
Rabbi Doron Shapira is our Cantor and Interim Rabbi. He was born in Tel Aviv, Israel and raised in San Francisco. He has been involved as a singer and percussionist in Jewish music since 1968. This is his 44th year working in all facets of Jewish education in the Bay Area. Doron served as Cantor at Peninsula Sinai Congregation since 1994. He is the proud recipient of the Helen Diller Family Award for Excellence in Jewish Education in the field of congregational and supplementary education. Doron received his rabbinic ordination in 2024 from the Pluralistic Rabbinical Seminary. He is a member of the Northern California Board of Rabbis. It is his privilege to serve PSC members’ pastoral and life-cycle needs, as well as develop PSC’s programming, education, Jewish music, and ruach (spirit), for both adults and children throughout the year! Rabbi Doron and his wife Jocelyn have three children—sons Elijah & Eitan and daughter Yael.

Yedida Kanfer, Ph.D.
Yedida Kanfer is our Education Director and Rabbinic Intern. She has been in love with Jewish learning and ritual since her childhood, living in Israel, Canada, NY, and Columbus, Ohio. In Columbus, Yedida went to an Orthodox synagogue and day school, where she helped to start the first girl’s basketball team. At the same time, Yedida studied Torah reading with her mother, who led a women’s tefillah group. Yedida attended Barnard College, spent a year in Moscow on a Fulbright Fellowship, and received her PhD from Yale University in Russian, East European, and Jewish history. She subsequently worked at the JFCS Holocaust Center in San Francisco, serving families, teens, adults, and Holocaust survivors. At the Holocaust Center, Yedida discovered her commitment to social responsibility and the Jewish community. Yedida entered rabbinical school in 2022, with the dream of becoming a pulpit rabbi. She is currently a fourth-year student at the Academy for Jewish Religion, California. In her spare time, Yedida enjoys watching sports (especially baseball), playing with her dog Gabi, identifying birds in Foster City, and reading whodunits. She feels so fortunate to serve the PSC community, where her family was first welcomed as congregants over 10 years ago. Yedida’s goal is for children to feel at home at PSC, and for each individual to feel valued – wherever they happen to be in their life journeys.
