Other Jewish Holidays

We provide traditional and engaging programming for Jewish holidays and festivals including Tu B'shevat, Purim, Passover, Yom Ha'Shoah, Yom Ha'atzmaut, Shavuot, Sukkot, Simchat Torah. We also celebrate Mitzvah Day in great numbers!

  • With two day festivals, Shavuot, Sukkot, and Simchat Torah, we offer two days of programming.  First day festivals are generally very well attended with second day festivals lesser, but still significant. Yom Tov services are ruach-filled. We host community meals after all morning festival services.
  • At Tu B'Shevat we host a community seder and plant trees.
  • At Purim, we offer two megillah readings, each spirited and celebrated with noise, costume, and Mishloach Manot.
  • At Passover, we provide Mechirat Chametz (selling of chametz) and Maot Chittin (tzedakah) to the community. ·Yom Ha'shoah is celebrated in the greater community with a community service hosted at different local synagogues each year.
  • Yom Ha'atzmaut (Israel Independence Day) is celebrated in a variety of ways:  school programs, communal programs with our local Peninsula Jewish Community Center, or often North Peninsula-wide celebrations featuring Israeli singers, food, and art!
  • On Mitzvah Day, we come out in droves to support many causes:  food bank support, local habitat restoration, providing homebound service (singing and meals), and others.
  • At Sukkot, we build a Sukkah, enjoy dinner together, sing, dance and invite everyone to participate in the mitzvah of shaking a lulav and etrog.
  • At Simchat Torah, we really turn up our ruach with a celebration enriched by local musicians and a viewing/reading of the whole Torah in 15 minutes (really!)
